Portland / Nelson Frenzy Feb 16 to 18 2007

Hello everyone.Just arrived back from lovely Nelson and have this proposal for our Frenzy.
The "Nelson Explorer" departs from the jetty at 1:00 pm. The boat is the larger of the two seating 92
pass engers. The boat has a license for alcholol, we can bring along 'nibbles' if we wish. The voyage
takes 3.5 hours to journey up and down the Glenelg. After an hour on the river, the "Nelson Explorer
will dock and people can walk up some steps to the Princess Margaret Rose Cave. A tour of the cave
takes 40 minutes. We should arrive back in Nelson somewhere between 4:30 and 4:45. We are being
charged 'senior rates' for the boat trip - $22.50 pp. Tour of the cave will cost $11.00 pp.
On arrival in 'port' people can use the next couple of hours to go for a river walk, visit the pub, drive to
the River Estuary, walk along the lovely beach, have a coffee at the cafe or simply go back to the Pine-
haven Motel to freshen up. I have booked seven units at the Pinehaven Motel. Each cosy unit has its
own en-suite, color TV, refrigerator and tea and coffee making facilities. As far as I know going on the
numbers that I have there are five cabins taken. That leaves two. Anyone who hasn't put their names
down to be part of this memorable experience let me know ASAP
There are two self contained cottages as well. One of these has already been booked. There are two
fishing comps on before and after this weekend and all units will be booked out. Cost of each unit per
night is $75. We have a $10.00 discount for a group booking. Breakfast can be supplied at the BP road-
house(same guy owns the Pinehaven Motel), service station and the Motel are side by side so we don't
have to drive for breakfast. They serve an all day breakfast for $10.50. This includes 2 pieces of bacon,
2 eggs, 2 grilled tomatoes, 2 pieces of toast and a mug of tea or coffee. People can obviously make
other choices from the menu.
There is the Nelson Hotel which is a two minute walk from our accomodation. Lunch is served between
12:00 and 2:00pm. Dinner is served between 6:00 and 8:30 pm. They serve excellent meals. I have
booked us in for dinner.
After breakfast on the 18th we can drive to Winnap then to Dartmoor (68kms) to the 'Waterfall Gardens',
this is a fully licenced cafe. "Waterfall Gardens has gained a reputation as a place of interest for garden
fanciers and nature lovers alike." The pictures look very impressive! There are also carvings of statues
made from trees using chainsaws in the main street and these also are worth seeing. I've heard nothing
but positive reports about this place and I think it would be an ideal stop before the journey back to
Melbourne. The people travelling from Melbourne and Geelong you guys will have to organise your de-
parture time, etc,.. I've had to work the schedule around the river cruise so there hasn't been a lot of flex-
ibility.
